"Waiting For Sunset" plein air painting 8 x 10 inches oil on board The scene is downtown St Petersburg. This can almost be called a "plein-air sketch", as it was done quickly... in about 30 minutes. The light from the setting sun was changing rapidly and I wanted to capture the pre-sunset mood that first impressed me, rather than develop details of the scene.

I just completed this mural here in colorful St Petersburg Florida. It's in a section called the "Old Northeast"...lots of quaint historic homes in a garden setting. The challenge was to paint on the garage wall that was constructed with boards, so I used the horizontal edges of the boards to contribute to the lattice effect.

According to legend, Pass-A-Grille derives it's name from the French Passe aux Grillers. In 1857, John Gomez, self styled "last of the Pirates" began bringing excursionists here from Tampa.Home of the popular Don Ceaser Hotel, Pass-A Grille Beach is now a popular vacation spot.
